Announcement on the launch of Miru™ 1day UpSide multifocal

Menicon Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the launch of ‘Miru™ 1day UpSide multifocal’, a silicon-hydrogel daily disposable contact lens for presbyopic users.

The spherical version of Miru™ 1day UpSide, which features our most advanced material and Smart Touch™ technology, became available in Europe in the autumn of 2018. The product has been favourably accepted by many people.

According to international epidemiological studies, it was estimated that 1.8 billion people in the world, or one in four persons, had presbyopia as of 2015.¹ However, adequate presbyopia treatment is not fully available in certain countries or regions. Uncorrected or under-corrected presbyopia may have a negative impact on visual function, quality of life, and productivity.² Meanwhile, some people discontinue using contact lenses for presbyopia mainly because they are not satisfied with vision or comfort. They also find such contact lenses inconvenient to use.³

Miru™ 1day UpSide multifocal has the following characteristics that Menicon’s unique technology has made possible. The product is designed in such a way that it can be used easily by new wearers as well as customers upgrading from single vision lenses.

1. Good vision: Neuro Adaptive™ Design
   The centre of the lens is for short-sightedness and the peripheries are for far-sightedness. Low amplitude change in power leads to a smooth transition along the optical focal path so that users can easily adjust their eyes.
2. Comfortable all day long: NanoGloss™ Pro
   The product maintains the functionality of the lens by incorporating a new plasma technology which prevents contaminants from adhering to the surface of the lens. The technology also reduces the surface friction, providing a more natural feel.
3. Easy to use, clean: Smart Touch™
   The product comes in a package that lets users take out a lens without needing to check which side is the front or back and without touching the inner surface of the lens. Users will find it easy to apply the lens to their eye because they are less likely to touch the inner surface. Therefore, the product meets the people’s increasing hygiene awareness amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
